gerund and participle bangla নিয়ে একদম সহজ আলোচনা –

**Gerund**

Verb+ing যুক্ত হয়ে noun হিসেবে ব্যবহার হলে তাকে Gerund বলে। যে যে জায়গায় noun হয় সে সে জায়গায় Gerund হয়।
১) verb এর subject হিসেবে Gerund বসে।
২)verb এর object হিসেবে
৩) preposition এরপরে Gerund বসে।
৪) Determiner এরপরে Gerund বসে।

See some examples gerund and participle Bangla-

1. Reading is an excellent habit. here ‘reading’ is-

a) Gerund * b) present participle

N.B: is একটি verb.verb এর subject হিসেবে Gerund বসে।

2. The old man is tired of waiting. here ‘waiting’ is-

a) Gerund * b) participle

N.B: of একটি preposition. preposition এরপরে Gerund বসে।

3. Forgive me for my coming late. here ‘coming’ is-

a) Gerund * b) participle

N.B: my একটি possessive. possessive হলো determiner.determiner এরপরে Gerund বসে।

4. My mother hates cheating. here ‘cheating’ is-

a) Gerund * b) participle

N.B: hates একটি verb. verb এর object হিসেবে Gerund বসে।

**Participle**

participle হতে পারে adjective or adverb or preposition.
participle 3 প্রকার।

1) present participle (verb+ing )

2) past participle (v3)

3)perfect participle (having+v3)

দেখা যাচ্ছে present participle and gerund 2 টাই verb+ing যোগে গঠিত । এই ২ টার কনফিউশান দূর করার জন্য মাত্র কয়েকটি উপায় যথেষ্ট।
verb+ing যদি noun এর আগে অবস্থান করে এবং সেটাকে –
for দ্বারা প্রতিস্থাপন করা গেলে Gerund. আর
is দ্বারা প্রতিস্থাপন করা গেলে present participle হবে।

5. Barking dog seldom bites. here ‘barking’ is-

a) present participle * b) Gerund

N.B: যদিও এটা প্রবাদ বাক্য তবু সাধারণ ভাবে অর্থ করলে barking dog মানে কুকুরের ডাক।
dog is barking = কুকুরের ডাক।
dog for barking= কুকুরের জন্য ডাক।
কুকুর শুধু ডাকার জন্য নয় তাই এটা ভুল।

6. Driving licence must needed. here ‘driving’ is-

a) participle b) gerund *

N.B: মাঝখানে is বসালে licence is driving= লাইসেন্স হয় ড্রাইভিং ।
for বসালে licence for driving = ড্রাইভিং এর জন্য লাইসেন্স। (এটাই ঠিক)

7. frying pan. here ‘frying’ is-

a) participle b) gerund *

N.B: কোন কিছু ভাজি করার জন্য যে প্যান ব্যাবহার করা হয়। সেজন্য pan for frying.

8. swimming fish. here ‘swimming’ is-

a) participle* b) gerund

N.B: fish is swimming= মাছ সাতার কাটে।
fish for swimming= সাতার কাটার জন্য মাছ।(ভুল)

9. swimming pool. here ‘swimming’ is-

a) participle b) gerund *

N.B: pool for swimming= সাতার কাটার জন্য পুল।
pool is swimming= পুল সাতার কাটে। (এটা অসম্ভব)

11. running train. here ‘running’ is-

a) participle * b) gerund

N.B: a train is running= ট্রেন চলে।

12. waiting room. here ‘waiting’ is-

a) participle b) gerund *

N.B: room for waiting= অপেক্ষা করার জন্য রুম।

13. walking stick. here ‘walking’ is-

a) participle b) gerund *

N.B: stick for walking= হাটার জন্য লাঠি।

14. dining table. here ‘dining’ is-

a) participle b) gerund *

N.B: table for dining= ডায়নিংয়ের জন্য টেবিল।

15. drinking water. here ‘drinking’ is-

a) participle b) gerund *

N.B: Water for drinking= পান করার জন্য পানি।

** Complement দ্বারা কাজ করা বোঝালে Gerund হয় আর কাজ না করা বোঝালে present participle হয়।

15. His hobby is reading. here ‘reading’ is –

a) Participle b) Gerund *

N.B: reading দ্বারা বই পড়া বোঝাচ্ছে।

16. The matter is interesting. here ‘interesting’ is-

a) Participle * b) Gerund

N.B: Interesting মানে মজাদায়ক। যা কোন কাজ না।

**সকল Continuous and perfect continuous tense এর ing যুক্ত অংশগুলো present perticiple হয়।

17. It has been raining since Friday. here ‘raining’ is-

a)present Participle* b) Gerund

N.B: এটা perfect continuous tense.

18. he is reading a book. here ‘reading’ is-

a) present Participle* b) Gerund

N.B: এটা present continuous tense.

**Verb+ing এর পূর্বে antecedent থাকে তবে ing যুক্ত অংশ present participle হয়।

19. The man speaking loudly is known to me.

a) present Participle* b) Gerund
N.B: the man হলো speaking এর antecedent তাই speaking present participle.

20. I saw a bird ‍standing on a leg. here ‘standing’ is-

a) present Participle* b) Gerund

N.B: a bird হলো standing এর ‍antecedent. so, standing is a present participle.

** verb কে (কি বা কাকে) দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করলে যদি উত্তর পাওয়া যায় তবে সেটা object. ing যুক্ত অংশটি object হলে Gerund আর object না হলে present participle. অথবা transitive verb এর object হিসেবে Gerund আর intransitive verb এর object হিসেবে present participle.

21. He began dancing. here ‘dancing’ is-

a) present Participle b) Gerund*

N.B: began হলো verb. সে নাচা শুরু করেছিলো। প্রশ্ন: সে কি শুরু করেছিলো? উত্তর=নাচা। উত্তর পেয়েছি .আবার যে verb এরপর it বসানো যায় তাকে transitive verb বলে। he began it.তাই এটা gerund

22. He came dancing. here ‘dancing’ is-

a) present Participle* b) Gerund

N.B: সে নাচতে নাচতে এসেছিলো। came = এসেছিলো। প্রশ্ন: সে কি /কাকে এসেছিলো। কোন উত্তর নাই. .আবার যে verb এরপর here/there বসানো যায় তাকে intransitive verb বলে ।তাই এটা
present participle

** Degree যুক্ত অংশে ing থাকলে সেটা present participle হয়।

23. Education is the most pressing thing needed by us. here ‘pressing’ is-

a) present Participle* b) Gerund

N.B: the most pressing হলো superlative degree.

কিন্তু

24. Reading is better than writing. here ‘writing’ is-

a) present Participle b) Gerund*

N.B: better comperative degree কিন্তু তার সাথে writing যুক্ত নাই। মাঝখানে better আছে। তাই এটি Gerund

25. The movie is as exciting as sweet. here ‘exciting’ is-

a) present Participle* b) Gerund

N.B: as exciting as হলো positive degree.

** একজন কর্তা একাধিক কাজ করলে প্রথম কাজটি present participle হয়।

26. Coming to the class, the teacher taught us English.’ coming’ is-

a) present Participle * b) Gerund*

N.B: প্রথমে শিক্ষক ক্লাসে আসেন তারপর ইংরেজি শেখান। so, coming is present participle.
কিন্তু

27. By Coming to the class, the teacher taught us English.’ coming’ is-

a) present Participle b) Gerund*

N.B: এখানে coming gerund কারন তার আগে prepositionআছে। presposition এরপর Gerund হয়।

** verbal noun**

verb থেকে যে noun হয় তাকে verbal noun বলে।
remove(v)- removal(n)
play (v)-player

27. Teaching is a great profession. ‘teaching’ is-

a) Gerund/verbal noun* b) participle

N.B: gerund verbal noun হয় কিন্তু verbal noun gerund হয় না।

** the + noun + of = verbal noun হয়।

28. The students in the class are excellent. here ‘students’ is-

a) participle b) verbal noun*
